Whitney Houston: The Deluxe Anniversary Edition
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010It’s hard to believe Houston’s self-titled debut album was released 25 years ago, long before Auto-Tune, country sweethearts and trash-pop ruled the charts. (On Valentine’s Day 1985, appropriately enough.) The Deluxe Anniversary Edition, online and in stores Tuesday, is a grand reminder of why there’s still no substitute for pure vocal talent. The disc’s signature hits — Saving All My Love For You, How Will I Know, Greatest Love of All — still sparkle with youth, energy and an astonishing maturity. And take a new listen to You Give Good Love, Houston’s first pop hit. It’s a master class in control, delivery and silky soul. Whitney Houston took more than a year to hit No. 1. But when it did, the disc began a record-breaking run that resulted in sales of more than 25 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling debut album of all time.

BRAD AND ANGELINA ARE CALLING IT QUITS
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010Yes, the buzz bewitching the world of celebrity tells a sad tale about Hollywood’s favourite couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The famous adoptive parents of a brood of African orphans are splittsville, according to reports besieging the Internet. What’s behind the acrimony? Many are looking to Pitt’s former best friend, Jennifer Aniston, the mention of whom can reportedly still get Angelina all worked up in a jealous tizzy. Sources have told the Australian journal of record, the heraldsun.com, that Jolie’s in a semi-permanent snit because Pitt’s kin has always preferred cutie Aniston to the ravishing action star. One publication reported Angelina, beset by a jealous fury, belted the hapless Pitt. Other reports tell of the pair downing several bottles of vino in a Manhattan eatery before having a domestic set-to in public. Pitt has repeatedly denied he’s holding any kind of torch for Jen, but Angelina refuses to be mollified. Journalists have told how Pitt has taken to drink to drown his Jolie-drenched blues.

I give the marriage six months, tops. I can’t see it lasting. Nick does whatever Mariah wants him to — he’s like her puppy. It seems like Nick spends more time in the stores with Mariah’s credit card than he does with Mariah herself.”

Felisha Terrell, a former girlfriend of the baseball slugger, claimed last week that she was forced to get a restraining order against Kemp in 2008 because of his aggressive and threatening behavior. However her complaint was ultimately dropped.

Friday, January 22nd, 2010Outspoken rapper Kanye West has not been banned from Friday’s “Hope For Haiti” telethon. Internet rumors claimed that West, 32, was not invited to participate because he criticized then-President Bush during a televised 2005 Concert for Hurricane Relief (”George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” he said) and for interrupting Taylor Swift’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards speech. “Kayne has to make everything about himself. He will do anything to steal the spotlight and, well, this night it’s just not about him,” a source told AOL’s Popeater.
