Though she will not perform, Rihanna will still attend the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on January 31. But, she chooses to go alone without Matt Kemp, a baseball player who has repeatedly been spotted spending some quality time her. ”I’m going to the Grammys alone, as always!” the Barbadian songstress said during a radio interview on 104.3 MY FM in Los Angeles. “Even when I was in a relationship, I always have gone alone.”  She then quickly added, “I’m still single, if that’s what you really want to ask!” When pressed with question about her trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with the baseball player, she played it coy. “It was a blast,” she commented in a short statement.  Rihanna is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her joint track with Jay-Z and Kanye West in “Run This Town”. And, she is excited about it saying, “This was actually the first piece of music we did since the last Grammys. …. We cannot wait. We hope we bring home the bacon, but if not, it’s great that it was nominated.”  Last year, Rihanna was forced to cancel her performance at the event after she was involved in an altercation with Chris Brown which led to a messy split between the two.

After days of speculation about a possible breakup between Mr. Pitt and his other half, Angelina Jolie, word is surfacing that the power couple did indeed visit a high-powered L.A. lawyer last week - but only to cover their assets. ”They aren’t married, so they need to protect their children and property in case there’s a rift in the future,” a source says. That certainly makes sense, considering the two are worth a whopping $330 million combined. So why are rumors of a breakup running rampant? ”People hear ‘legal papers’ and assume it means a divorce,” our snitch continues. “But it could mean exactly the opposite. Either way, they’re making sure to get their ducks in a row, which they’ll need whether they split or stay together forever.

Citing a “deficit of trust” in government by the American people, President Obama’s first State of the Union address urged Congress to erode the influence of special interests and work together to confront the nation’s most pressing problems. In the nationally televised speech Wednesday night to a joint session of Congress, Obama sought to reassure Americans angry and nervous about the pace of economic recovery that his government understands the challenges and would act boldly to meet them.

Obama called for a new political climate of “common sense” approaches that invest in the American people without building “a mountain of debt.”

Highlights of the speech

“We have to recognize that we face more than a deficit of dollars right now. We face a deficit of trust — deep and corrosive doubts about how Washington works that have been growing for years,” Obama said.

Mrs Madikizela-Mandela, as she has been known since her divorce from Mr Mandela in 1996, is one of South Africa’s most controversial and divisive figures. The South African-made film, titled Winnie, is due to start shooting in May and will star Jennifer Hudson, the Oscar-winning American actress, whose casting in the role provoked protests from South African actors. It is based on an independent biography of her, Winnie Mandela: A Life, by Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob, a former journalist, described by one reviewer as “hard-hitting but not heartless”. Nonetheless lawyers for Mrs Madikizela-Mandela, 73, have stepped in to warn the producers that she is reserving her legal rights. The position of the producers is that if a screenplay has to be approved by Ms Madikizela-Mandela, then the film based on that screenplay could possibly be jeopardised as the world may question the credibility of the film,” she said, adding that they were advised that they do not legally need her consent to make the film.
