WHITNEY HOUSTON COMEBACK

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Come back of the decade award goes to……..Whitney Houston who returned to the American Music Award stage on Sunday night, blazing ahead with an already strong comeback year. She accepted the award for International Artist, which is quiet an honor for her as this is an award which is given to less than ten recording artists, Houston thanked fans for simply standing by. Whitney Houston amazed the audience away with her new song “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”. The lyrics of the song, were very apt for Houston, considering the struggles the singer has been through over the past few years. Whitney Houston sang very well and looked gorgeous as well, even though she didn’t look like she was 46 years old at all. She is also very close to celebrating her 25th year in music.

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2009

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Janet Jackson opened the show with a medley of some of the biggest hits from her long career - all tracks that appear on her new greatest-hits collection, also called “Number Ones.”  Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson were the big winners at tonight’s American Music Awards ceremony, with the former picking up five awards, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in the pop/rock and country categories, and Favorite Adult-Contemporary Artist which she accepted her awards live via satellite from London. Jackson was recognized in four categories, including Favorite Male Artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. Otherwise, the evening was pretty straight-forward, as singers and bands performed their latest chart-toppers Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Whitney Houston, Eminem Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, The Black Eye Peas, and JLO made a comeback.  Performances by Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert were among the musical highlights. Lady Gaga, started off by singing hit “Bad Romance,” she segued into “Speechless” by using her microphone stand to bust open a glass box with a piano inside. Lambert, not to be outdone, wore a silvery suit, with spikes on his left shoulder, to belt out the titular first single from his album “For Your Entertainment.” As can be expected, the performance — the last of the evening — was filled with plenty of writhing, hip swiveling and S&M costumes. The singer even planted an intense smooch on one of his keyboardists.

RHOA KANDI CLOTHING STORE “TAGS” GRAND OPENING

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss and her good friend Peahes Chin have opened their new clothing store called Tags in Atlanta.Tags, is open for business in Smyrna’s West Village and the concept for the store is “luxury for less” with most items under $100. The store has a trendy feel to it, boasting the latest, hottest pieces that are timely and current, geared for younger women, who want affordable fashions , trinkets, and accessory pieces. Belts, scarves, handbags, and costume jewelery are the types of accessories one can find all throughout the Tags boutique. In a departure from similar stores in the area, Burruss and Chin decided to dedicate part of the store to trendy mens wear , in order to serve every man and woman who wants to look cool. I think that is a smart move, because I personally prefer to shop where there will be a lot of women around, so I can get some good feedback that I am going to pay attention to. The guest included Kandi’s mother and aunts , RHOA Kim and Big Poppa , Lisa and husband , Bobby Valentine , Micheal Knight, Diamond and Rasheeda to just name a few.

As expected the film will also shoot scenes at Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela served 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment.

CHRIS BROWN GETS KUDOS FROM JUDGE

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Finally, somebody thinks that Chris Brown is doing something right. Brown appeared in front of a judge on Thursday, who weighed in on how he’s been doing meeting the terms of his probation. And Judge Patricia M. Schnegg thinks that Brown is doing just great. Better ride the praise, Chris. We know it’s hard to come by these days. Speaking to Brown, Judge Schnegg said, “We have a progress report and it’s extremely favorable. That’s excellent.” That means that Brown has been doing an “excellent” job completing his community service - which the judge previously made clear was more community “labor” than service - having already completed over 100 hours of labor, as well as seven mandatory domestic violence sessions. He’s also already paid off the fines and court fees he owed. While that may seem like a lot, Brown has a long way to go. He has been sentenced to over 1400 hours of labor. In other words, just another 1300 hours, and he can call it a day.

ALICIA KEYS LAUNCHES A NEW LINE OF JEWELERY

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

As if her singing career doesn’t keep her busy enough, Alicia Keys is taking on jewelry design. The 12-time Grammy award-winning R&B singer is teaming up with The Barber’s Daughters designer Gisele Theriault for a collection of necklaces due out in fall 2010. Alicia first met Gisele while she was touring in Toronto through her bandmates, who happened to be buying the jewelry backstage at her show. “I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me,”. Alicia’s collection of necklaces for The Barbara’s Daughters will range in price from $85 to $2,500 and feature precious metals and gems inscribed with inspirational messages. And while the collection won’t be available until next year, New Yorkers will get a first hand look next week.
